About the Role:
As a Staff IoT Engineer, you will play a critical role in architecting our IoT platform to ensure its scalability, reliability, and efficiency. You will lead the design and development of components and services, working closely with a dynamic team of platform engineers and collaborating with Product and Embedded engineers, to bring product ideas to life. Additionally, you will mentor engineers and promote industry best IoT practices to ensure our solutions are cutting-edge and maintain high standards.
What You’ll Do:
Promote best IoT practices
Collaborate with a cross functional team to design and document scalable solutions
Ability to write secure, maintainable code that powers the platform that connects the world’s physical economy
Lead code reviews and help to guide software architecture decisions
Resource for the product team to determine technical feasibility of features
Build and scale data models and improve system performance
Build and make scalable design choices for API interfaces to work across internal and external applications and services
Building software that improves the cost of running a service in production, reduces iteration time and helps you and the team make better decisions about how and what we build and try next
Build appropriate monitoring, logging, debugging for the health of the system
Communicate effectively across multiple teams and projects. Actively work on our AWS cloud infrastructure
Mentor and learn from the developers within the engineering organization
What We’re Looking For:
B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or related field
10+ years of software development experience
5+ years of IoT Cloud experience
3+ years of MQTT experience
An affinity for creating software that is extensible, performant, and easy to read
Strong programming skills in one or more of these languages: Ruby (Rails), GoLang, Java, Python, or NodeJSExperience with relational and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Redis, and Cassandra
Experience with scaling, troubleshooting, migrations and security of distributed systems
Experience building for Cloud Infrastructure such as AWS, GCP, Azure or private cloudsExperience with CI/CD and version control (preferably Git)

Your compensation may be based on several factors, including education, work experience, and certifications. For certain roles, total compensation may include restricted stock units. The compensation range for this position will depend on where you reside. Motive uses three geographic zones to determine pay range. For this role, the compensation ranges are:_
San Francisco, California
$154,000—$195,000 USD
U.S. metropolitan areas: Los Angeles, San Diego, New York City Area, Seattle, Washington D.C.
$147,000—$187,000 USD
Other locations in the United States
$120,000—$160,000 USD
